Glen, this is disturbing to say the least. There is a quiet revolution happening among writers--we're not quite to the stage yet of thrusting our heads through open windows and shouting that we're not going to take it any more, but damn it, we're not going to take it any more. In the past year, I've read three pre-release books that I am absolutely loved--The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray, by Walter Moseley; This River, by James Brown; and The Book of Bunk, by--Well, you know. The last two were produced by small presses but are fabulous reads. The current struggle for recognition reminds me of the time not so long ago when folks were having conversations about whether an "indie" film could win Academy of Motion Picture recognition. It used to be we only saw "independent" films on DVD. Now they're in wide distribution. Perhaps we'll finally see this with books produced by all the struggling but valiant small presses--that they will be readily available through the big chain bookstores... and just as equitably showcased by theRumpus knuckleheads.

Wow. At long last.

Indeed.

Glenn, I will be attending the Howl at the Moon conference tomorrow and just wanted to check in (on a whim) and see how things were progressing. I haven't been keeping up. I'm thrilled to hear that Bunk will be on real paper between two covers very soon. Let me know how I can get an ARC and I'll review it for Amazon & Lunch.com. This is just really, really good news.

I have been... ahem... um... away... for awhile. Just now getting back out into sunlight and society.

So... BoB will soon be published. This is wonderful. This would constitute a big ray of sunshine for me. Helps.

Hurrah!

A fair point, Siena--

But I still think the movie's trying to have it both ways. In that final meeting, Summer tells him that she was wrong and he was right, that True Love is possible--just not for her with him. Therefore, the temptation, at least, is to infer that Autumn (or, perhaps, her eventual successor, Winter) will in fact be the Soulmate for our hero.

I liked the movie, too. I just hoped/expected to like it more. Great to hear from you here.

I thought the message of 500 Days was more that there are many people in the world you can have a wonderful time with, and they don't have to be the one true love of your life. So, I didn't read Autumn as his true soul mate, but just another girl he could be compatible with. Granted, when she said her name I let out a huge groan. But I liked the movie a lot and thought it was funny. Saw the trailer for Adam when I went to see it and I definitely want to see that too.
