All Happy People
In the midst of divorce, illness, unexpected relocation, miscarriage, and grief, by accident or force of will, the characters in All Happy People find individual routes to very different and personal versions of contentment or joy. Flipping Tolstoy’s overfamiliar truism about unhappy families on its head, these gentle but not necessarily comforting novellas explore possibilities for sustained adult happiness, and its varieties, and its costs.
Originally published for subscribers only on my Substack, this was an experiment, that turned into a years-long project, that wound up being one of my favorite sets of my own writing. Not that I get to say.
All the stories stand alone, but they are linked by some shared events and characters, and the effect is cumulative. Currently freely available at the links below.
